Tah Dah's Romance Side

This is Tah Dah, our Take Apart Horse (TAH). He's brand new, and will be used for
making presentations about the construction of carousel figures.
He's carved from basswood, which comes from the Linden tree.
Waiting patiently for his paint job, he's shown
here in an unfinished state, displaying the natural color of his wood.
He matches the full-sized carousel horses
in the number of pieces of wood used,
in the pattern of his laminations,
and in the hollow section in his middle.
Tah Dah was carved by Bob Cherot of Montana Carousel Company, and
is a replica of Looff's Coney Island style horses right down
to the little signature details, such as the design of the horse shoe
and the nail heads. He'll have jewels and glass eyes when he's
finished.
Tah is 20 inches tall from mane to toe, 24 inches from his nose to his tail
socket and 36 inches from the brass finial to the table top.
He'll be a complete carousel horse on one side (the romance side), but
he's only roughed out on his back side (the money side).
The back side is removable, exposing his joints and inner assembly.
After he's painted and gets his jewelry and tail, he'll be on display at
our carousel. At least he will be when he's not out visiting children (or adults)!
